Online Self-Service
How to Safely Package My Item
Prepare online self-service parcels with strong outer boxes, proper cushioning, secure tape, clear labels, and shipment documents that help reduce avoidable damage and delays.
When customers choose online self-service, the parcel needs to be packed before booking and collection. Good packaging starts with a strong double-wall carton, continues with enough cushioning around every item, and ends with secure sealing and clear labelling. These steps help parcels move through courier networks more reliably and support loss or damage warranty requirements where cover is selected.
Why Packaging Standards Matter
Online self-service is intended for pre-packed parcels, so the customer controls the packing quality. Strong packaging reduces movement inside the carton, protects edges and surfaces, and helps avoid delays caused by unsafe or poorly labelled consignments.
Use a Strong Outer Box
Choose a new double-wall corrugated box as a minimum. The carton should be strong enough for the size and weight of the item, with enough space for protective cushioning around all sides.
Avoid Weak or Unsuitable Containers
Single-wall cartons, damaged boxes, supermarket boxes, fabric bags, plastic storage tubs, and original manufacturer packaging on its own are not suitable outer containers for most courier shipments.
Cushion Every Item
Wrap each item in bubble wrap or foam wrap and fill empty space with suitable packing paper. Items should not touch the walls of the box or each other, and the contents should not move when the box is gently shaken.
Seal the Carton Properly
Use pressure-sensitive plastic packaging tape, ideally 48mm wide, across the top and bottom flaps and along the main closure edges. Avoid masking tape, cellophane tape, duct tape, string, or paper wrap.
Label and Document Clearly
Attach the shipping label securely on top of the parcel, remove old barcodes and address labels, write key delivery details on the box, and include any required customs or commercial documents with the shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about this service.
What box should I use for online self-service parcels?
Use a new double-wall corrugated carton as a minimum. The box should be strong enough for the item weight and large enough to allow cushioning on every side.
Can I ship an item in its original manufacturer box?
Original packaging on its own is usually not enough. Place the item and original packaging inside a strong double-wall outer carton with suitable cushioning.
What cushioning should I use inside the parcel?
Use bubble wrap, foam wrap, and quality packing paper. Avoid clothing, towels, newspaper, shredded paper, and pillows because they do not provide reliable courier-grade protection.
How should I tape the parcel?
Use strong plastic packaging tape across the top and bottom flaps and along the main closure edges. Do not rely on masking tape, sticky tape, string, or paper wrap.
Where should I place the shipping label?
Place the label securely on top of the parcel where it is easy to scan. Remove old labels and write key delivery details on the box as a backup.
